Rekey FAQs

What is a rekey?

In layman's terms, a "rekey of a transaction" means retrying to process a payment that was already authorized or didn't go through the first time. This could involve the original amount you wanted to pay, any adjustments, tips, or a mix of these. The new attempt might use the same approval code from the payment network or not. When this happens, you might see a second transaction on your credit card statement. This second charge could either be completed or show up as pending and then disappear later on.

Why can't I complete a rekey?

There could be several reasons why you are not able to enter in a rekey. If you are operating in "Offline Mode" or "Store & Forward" mode, your rekey might not be working because of, but not limited to:

  • System error(s)
  • Software error
  • System or provider outage(s) including intermittent outage(s)
  • Merchant’s misuse of the functionality
  • Merchant’s enabling or disabling the function improperly or at the wrong time

What are the risks of rekeying?

Rekeying of transactions has inherent and substantial risks!!! This is including, but not limited to, the TOTAL LOSS OF REKEYED AMOUNTS PLUS CHARGEBACK FEES AND PENALTIES from the processor or chargeback-facilitator for the chargebacks on the rekeyed transactions. Chargeback fees vary by provider. Please reference your merchant processing agreement for chargeback fees, penalties, assessments, rules, and details. INGAGE does not initiate or facilitate chargebacks or chargeback disputes and is not responsible for any chargeback fees or penalties.

STOP: Rekeying of transactions may cause you to lose MORE money from chargeback fees and penalties than the amount of the rekeyed card batch revenue itself!!! The company could lose all revenue/sales plus incur additional fees and penalties!!!
