Surcharging FAQs
What is the credit card surcharge and how does it benefit me?
For all credit card transactions (not debit, just credit), SAIL applies a 3% Credit Card Surcharge. This surcharge goes directly to you to help offset your credit card processing fees. In essence, it covers your processing costs while also supporting the technology provided by INGAGE. This amount is deposited into your bank account with your regular credit card processing batches.
How long do I have to wait until I can enable surcharging?
There is a 30-day waiting period to enable surcharging after notifying the processor.
How will this fee appear in my SAIL reports?
You can view the net and gross totals of surcharge collected in your 'Sales Period Report'.
To view the net surcharge total, you can find it under "Sales" -> "Charges" -> "Surcharge" line. For example, this report from 2/23 shows a collection of $45.25 in net surcharge:
To view the gross surcharge, you will need to go under "Tax Type" -> "Surcharge":
NOTE: The gross surcharge is just the net amount surcharged plus the sales tax collected on the surcharge.
Why isn't surcharging a line item?
Because the processor is the one applying the surcharge, not SAIL, it doesn't appear as a line item. However, it will still print out on your receipts.
Where is the surcharge being applied?
The surcharge is applied to the total. It has nothing to do with individual line items (food/alcohol/etc.)
Where can I breakdown my credit vs. debit card sales to make sure the surcharge amount is correct?
You can see a full breakdown of credit and debit card sales and the surcharge applied to the individual credit cards on the batch report by day.
To find your batch reports by day: POS -> "Reporting" -> "Reports" -> "Accounting" -> "Batch Report By Date"
Where does the money go?
The surcharge amount is bundled with your transaction deposits and is directly deposited into your bank account, just like any other credit card payment.
When will I receive the money?
The deposit timing follows your standard batch schedule. If you have specific questions about your batch schedule, please check out this article: https://help.ingageit.com/books/help-mx-merchant-and-payments/page/payment-funding-schedule
What will the money be called when it hits our bank account?
Since the surcharge is simply part of the transaction, and will be in your batch deposits, it will not have a different descriptor than your usual deposits.
