Sail POS: A kitchen video (KVS) screen is down — cover it with Wheel Spy on another screen
Summary. When a Kitchen Video screen goes dark, turn on Wheel Spy on a working Quick Station screen so it also shows the down station's tickets — no waiting on a repair to keep the kitchen moving.
Applies to. Sail POS — all current versions.
Before you start
- Know which KVS station is down
- Confirm you have a working Quick Station screen available to cover for it — Wheel Spy is only available on Quick Stations. (The Expo screen already sees every ticket by design, so this workaround isn't needed there.)
What's happening
A Kitchen Video screen isn't displaying tickets — that station's cooks can't see incoming orders.
Can you keep serving? (triage)
- Is there a working Quick Station screen elsewhere in the kitchen? Yes — continue below.
- No working Quick Station screen available — skip to "When you must call."
Keep-serving steps
- On a working Quick Station screen, find the Wheel Spy toggle — a standalone button directly on the main screen, no need to open Quick Settings or Station Settings.
- Turn Wheel Spy ON.
- Heads up: this shows the entire Wheel screen's ticket queue — all active tickets across the kitchen, not just the down station's — so cooks will need to visually pick out which tickets belong to the station they're covering. Items can't be marked as cooking while viewed through Wheel Spy, but cooks can still bump items off once they're done. Not ideal, but good enough to get through a triage situation.
Verify it worked
- Send a test ticket for an item from the down station's menu and confirm it now appears on the screen with Wheel Spy enabled.
When you must call
- No working Quick Station screen anywhere in the kitchen to enable Wheel Spy on — call support.
Restore
- Once the down screen is fixed/replaced: turn Wheel Spy back OFF on the covering screen to return it to its normal, station-scoped view.
