Pass the Puck

This document will show you how to configure a Pass the Puck station collection, and what it looks like in action

What is Pass the Puck?

Pass the Puck is a feature that allows a menu item to move through multiple stations during preparation. It’s designed for dishes that require more than one step, such as starting on the grill and finishing at the salad or plating station.

Here’s how it works:

  • The item first appears on Station 1’s screen (e.g., Grill).

    • That station will fire the item when prep begins, and then FINISH it when their part is done.

  • Once Station 1 finishes the item, it is automatically passed to the next assigned station (e.g., Salad).

  • At Station 2, the item will also be fired and then FINISHED to complete their step.

  • Once the final station finishes the item, it will show as completed on the Expo screen.

Note: You can pass an item through more than two stations if needed — each one will fire and FINISH it before it moves on.

This feature keeps multi-step dishes organized and ensures clear accountability at each station. It helps avoid missed steps, miscommunication, and ensures the final product is prepped and plated correctly.

How to set up Pass the Puck in Backoffice
  1. Backoffice --> POS --> System Setup --> Kitchen Setup --> Kitchen Video --> Third tab called station collections
  2. Add a new record (or edit an existing one)
    1. Name it
    2. Select the stations you'd like included in the collection
    3. Use the arrow on the right to move the station you want first to the top, and the station you want second underneath that
    4. Click the checkbox for "Pass the Puck"
      1. When selected, the item will need to be finished on one station before going to the next

In this example, the collection is called "Fry to Salad." I have both the Fry and Salad station selected and the Fry station is on top so it goes to that station first. And I have the Pass The Puck checkbox selected.

Here is what it looks like on Kitchen Video

A Buffalo Chicken Wrap has been rung in. This item needs to be prepared at two stations:

  1. Fry Station – The chicken tenders are cooked here first.

  2. Salad Station – Once the tenders are ready, the wrap is assembled here.

The item will first appear on the Fry station screen. After the tenders are done, the item is marked as finished at that station, and it will automatically move to the Salad station. Once the Salad station finishes the wrap, the item will then show as ready on the Expo screen.
