Sail POS & Focus POS: Can't close the day - troubleshoot it
Common things to try first
- Sail: Daily Close says a table is still open, but it doesn't show up anywhere when you look for it (Orders screen, under any server)? Run a terminal sync, then try the close again. Still won't close? You'll be given the option to roll the table to the next day or close it to cash - choose whichever matches what actually happened with that order.
- Focus: Screen stuck saying "Closing Day" and won't move forward? Close out of Focus completely and relaunch it. Give it a minute, then try the close again.
Summary. Walks through closing out the business day on both Sail and Focus, plus what to do when the close won't go through - a stuck phantom table on Sail, a frozen screen on Focus, or the standard open-server/open-table/unentered-tip errors.
Applies to. Sail POS & Focus POS - all current versions.
Sail: Daily Close step-by-step
Before you can do a daily close these things need to be finished:
- All tables are closed out
- All tips are entered
- All servers are closed out
How to run the Daily Close
- Log in to the terminal and navigate to the Functions screen.
- Click "Daily Close."
- It will prompt to make sure you want to.
- It will let you know if the Daily Close was a success. If not, see the troubleshooting steps below. It will also let you know if there are any users still on the clock.
- The report will print out with the whole day's sales.
If there are multiple servers in a day:
- You need to do a server close for each one before you can do the daily close.
- The server closes added together should equal the amount at the bottom of the daily close.
Sail: Troubleshooting when a Daily Close doesn't work
Daily Close FAILED!! - There are still open servers
- This means there are still servers who have not been closed out. To see which servers are still open, click the server close button - the list will show you which servers still need to be closed out.
Server Close FAILED!! - Server still has open tables. Please close all tables and retry.
- Go back to the launch screen, click "Orders." This should show all open tables under that server - make sure the correct server is selected at the top, and if it says "closed tables," click to switch it back to "open orders."
- Close out any open tables. If the guest already paid and the money's in the till, fast-cash the table to close it. If you're unsure whether they paid, print the ticket and void the table (save the ticket and give it to a manager to explain why it was voided).
- Once all tables are closed, try the server close again.
Server Close FAILED!! - Server still has unentered credit card tips.
- This means there are payments that haven't had a tip entered - even a $0 tip needs to be entered.
- Go to Payments, and make sure the top middle shows "All pending credit cards." Enter all credit card tips until the pending list is cleared, then try the server close again.
Focus: Close Day step-by-step
