How to add a charge or gratuity
This will walk through how to add a charge to an order on the terminal, like a gratuity for a large party or a fee, either to the whole table or to one guest, and how to take a charge off again. The charges you can pick are set up in Backoffice, so the buttons on your terminal may look different from the ones here.
Some gratuities can be added by themselves, for example on every party of 8 or more. Click here to learn more about setting up an auto gratuity in Backoffice.
Adding a charge to the whole table
1. Open the order and tap Charges.

2. The Apply Charge screen opens with every guest selected (their buttons at the top are yellow). Tap the charge you want, like 18% Gratuity.

3. The charge shows on every guest. A percentage is worked out on each guest's own order. Tap Done to go back to the order.

Adding a charge to one guest
1. Open the order and tap Charges. On the Apply Charge screen, tap Clear Guests.

2. At the top, tap the guest who pays the charge. To give it to more than one guest, tap each of them.

3. Tap the charge, like 22% Gratuity. It goes only on the guests you picked. Tap Done to go back to the order.

Note: Some charges are set up to always go on every guest. If you tap one of them when only some guests are selected, the terminal shows This charge must be applied to all guests. Tap OK and the charge goes on every guest.

Charges that ask for an amount
Some charges don't have a set amount, like Variable Amount and Variable Percentage here.

After you tap one, the terminal asks for it (Enter Charge Amount, or Enter Charge Percentage for a percentage). Type the amount on the keypad and tap Enter.

Note: If a charge has a highest amount set up and you type more than that, the terminal tells you and asks again.
Charges that need a manager
Charges set up to need a manager only show on the Apply Charge screen for people whose job role has the Enter Manager Only Charges task. If a guest should get one, ask a manager to add it.
Removing a charge
1. On the order, tap the charge you want to take off.

2. Tap Delete. The charge comes off the order.

Note: A charge that always goes on every guest comes off every guest who hasn't paid yet, and the terminal tells you so. Tap OK.
