Whats new on the Item Editor?

The Item Editor Has a New Look

Nothing was removed, and nothing about how items work at the register has changed. Every setting you use today is still here, with the same name and the same permissions. What's changed is where things live.

Clicking an item in the item tree now opens the new Item Editor. The Classic Item Editor had eleven tabs across the top, and one of them, Advanced, had become the place almost everything landed when it didn't fit anywhere else — button colours, printing options, manager permissions, integration names, cooking times, and kitchen ticket settings, all on one long page. In the Item Editor, those settings have been sorted into seven tabs, each with its own sub-tabs down the left side, grouped by what you're setting up.

What's new

• One store picker for the whole item. "Editing For" sits beside the item name at the top of the page. Choose Default (all locations) or a single store, and every tab follows your choice. The Classic Item Editor made you set the location separately on each tab.
• Price, cost, availability and size prices are one grid. The top row is the default for every store, with a row underneath for each store. Size prices are extra columns in the same grid. The Default row's Available tick box is the item's active setting.
• Blank means "same as default." While you're editing a store, a setting you leave empty shows the default value in grey, so you can always see what that store will actually use. Clear a field to go back to inheriting.
• Three-way switches. On settings that can differ by store, the switch has three positions while you're editing a store: Inherit, On, Off. Click it to cycle through them. At Default (all locations) it behaves as a normal on/off switch.
• You can't lose work by switching stores. If you change stores with unsaved edits, you're asked to Save & Switch, Discard Changes, or Cancel.
• The tabs tell you where a problem is. If a save is blocked, a red dot appears on the tab holding the field that needs attention, so you're not hunting for it.
• Duplicate is a button in the page header, with a dialog for choosing what carries over to the copy. It's greyed out until you save, because it copies the saved item.
• Prompted modifier sets edit straight in the list — several rows at a time, without opening each one. The modifier set name is a link that opens that set.
• Ingredients can be added several at a time from a searchable picker instead of one at a time.
• The Flow tab is readable. Instead of the old chart, the prompt flow is an outline you can follow, with toggles for in-store, online and delivery apps, store-specific prices, and links that jump straight to each modifier set.
• A few smaller touches: the item's own icon now appears as the page icon, renaming an item updates the item tree right away, and Item Categories has a new Audit History tab, which it never had before.

Still the same

• Permissions and who can edit what are exactly the same.
• Everything after the Details tab still needs the item saved once before it opens — same as the Classic Item Editor.
• Modifier items still show a shorter set of tabs. Inventory, Ingredients, and several item-only settings stay hidden on them, same as before.

 

Getting back to the Classic Item Editor

The Classic Item Editor is still one click away. Use the swap icon in the breadcrumb bar at the top of the page to move between the two views, in either direction. Shortcuts still open in the Classic Item Editor for now.
